How do I find photos of a couple?

First you have to find the couple’s profile (see “how do I find a couple’s profile”). On the left side of the couple’s profile there is a link to all the couple’s photos we have.

How do I find a couple’s profile?

  • 1. Click on the Search option in the menu and select ‘Couples’. In the box specify a part of the couple’s name – remember to put the gentleman’s name before the lady’s.
  • 2. Press the ‘Search’ button.
  • 3. You will be presented with a list of matching couples. Click on couple name to get the profile

If you are unsure about a part of the name, just type a space there instead. E.g. If you were looking for ‘Christopher Short’ and ‘Yana Balabayeva’ and you are not sure if you should write ‘Chris’ or ‘Christopher’, you would just write ‘Chris’. Similarly, if you were unsure about ‘Yana’s’ first name (whether it was spelt Jana, Yana or Iana), you would just write ‘ana’.

So in the above case you could write ‘Chris Short ana Bal’

How can I help?

You can help us and the entire dancing community in several ways:
  • - you can send us results and news
  • - you can become a helper (please contact us for more details)
  • - you can purchase our products (websites, photos, adverts)
  • - you can send us a donation

Who do you host your site with?

With ourselves!! We have our own servers placed in a huge data centre, instead of just hiring part of a server as some other sites

No other site has so much information/features. How do you do it?

We own small computer software company, and have been in the computer business for over 20 years. We know how to write software and how to get the most of available tools. Our company has dealt with normal users for all this time, so we know how to make an easy but powerful interface.

We were the first database based dancing site in the world, and we knew from the beginning how to make a proper professional design.

We also spend a lot of time on ‘cleaning data’, i.e. correcting name spelling, cross referencing the information we receive, optimizing our servers, etc.

Where do you get all the data?

We have a lot of people cooperating with us. Sometimes we also get results from other sites. In such case we always put the original site address in the comment at the bottom.

What dance organization are you related to?

We are not a part of or dependent on any dance organization. This site is privately owned and is completely independent.

Can I buy an electronic version of a full resolution picture?

YES! However these files can be only used for your personal needs. This means that you cannot use them for publishing or advertising in any media (including newspapers, magazines, posters, web sites etc.). You can however print them for yourself and your family and friends. If you want to use them for publications - plas contact us regarding royalities. We may grant i for free or for a fee. It very much depends on what do you want them to use for.

Why should I pay you for a photo, when I can print it on my printer?

Firstly, because this is honest. We own the copyrights to all our pictures (or rights to distribute them in other galleries) and if you print photos you would be in breach of this copyright.

Secondly, because even the best printer with the best paper does not give as good a result as our professional printing service. Our prints are of the same high quality as photos which you collect from your local photo processing centre. Unlike a normal printout, they do not fade with time.

My friend/student can do the page for me, why should I pay for it?

Of course, assuming that your friend is pro, he can do it for you. However, the Internet, like every other part of our life, changes with time, and what was hot one day is rather old fashioned in just a year or two. Our package assures you that you will stay in fashion all the time and that we will modify your pages when something is changed in your dancing activities.

How many sites have you seen which display ‘News’ which are years out of date?

Why is your service so cheap/expensive?

Our ‘Trouble Free’ package does not costs much more than ‘technical’ hosting with other companies. In fact it is similar to mobile phone (US: cellular) companies. In their case the phone is cheap, because they recover money later from your subscription fees. We offer a cheap design service, because we believe that our service is so good that you will stay with us for years.

How difficult is to make a website?

This is very difficult to describe in a paragraph; it is almost like asking ‘how difficult is to dance?’ A bad site on a cheap (or even free) provider is not difficult to make. You can often even create your site using their interface. If, however, you wish to have something which looks professional and which shows others that you treat your dancing professionally then you should really ask professional web designer to do it for you.

We offer ‘Trouble Free’ packages for you and remember, we are have been in the computer business for over 20 years, so we ARE professionals.

Why should I have website?

Having a website today is more important than having a business card. There, you can present yourself, your partner and your dancing career. From our experience, everyone who looks for somebody for a show are much more likely to employ somebody who has a professionally made website, as they can see this couple’s pictures and read their history, than someone without.

Also, instead of giving away leaflets describing you and your dancing, you can simply point people to your website.

Can I change my profile page?

At the moment, this is not possible directly. You can send us results from competitions in which you danced and when we add them; your result will appear on your profile page.

If you wish to have a better page, we would encourage you to create a web site with us. You can choose between several ‘technical’ packages (i.e. you are responsible for design and maintenance) and the ‘Trouble Free’ package (we do the design and maintain site for you). For more details and pricing visit www.dancepages.info

How to find photos from a competition?

We often have photos from competitions, taken either by us or by photographers cooperating with us. To find photos from a competition, please search for the competition as described in ‘how do I find a competition?’ In the list that appears, if a competition has a picture of a camera [img], then it has photos. Click on the camera to display them.

You can also tick the box which says ‘Has a photo gallery’, to limit the search only to competitions which have photos.

Please, remember that photos to which we could not assign a couple are shown first. If you know a couple in one of these, please let us know so that can change it for other users.

How do I find a competition?

  • 1. Click on the ‘Search’ option in the menu and select ‘Competitions’. If you know when this competition was, then fill in the dates. If you do not know, then keep these fields empty.
  • 2. Select the country that the competition was in, and the name of the town from the box below. You can also enter a part of the event name if you know it.
  • 3. Select a style and age group.
  • 4. Press the ‘Search’ button.
If you cannot find the competition in the list, please remember that the information is presented in pages (look at small page numbers at the top and bottom of the page). If competition you are looking for is still not there, then try to be less specific.

I want to check the results from a competition, but I cannot find it

If it was major competition in the last few years, then we probably have the results. Please follow the steps in “how do I find a competition?’. If you are sure that we do not have the results and you have them, then please send them to us and we will add them as soon as we can.

Please however remember that we cannot often get results from more obscure competitions, and we may not have some old competitions.

I would like to add photos to your gallery. How can I do it?

There are two ways to do this:

You can add pictures to our gallery, but they must satisfy the following criteria:

  • - all pictures must be yours
  • - you have to agree for us to display them and to possibly to sell them.
  • - you have to provide us with good quality JPGs
You can also apply for gallery with us. This is a free service, but you have to agree to some conditions. Please contact us directly about conditions.

You do not have all of my results - can you add them to my profile?

You do not have all of my results - can you add them to my profile? First of all, please remember that we offer a database of results from competitions, so all the results in your profile are taken from the database. We are unable to add individual results for every couple, unless we add the entire event’s results (not the full event – but at least the final). If you know the results and we have not got them, then send the results to us and we will add them as soon as possible.

I am from a certain country, but my profile says that I am from another country

We try to do our best in identifying the home country of all dancers, but having over 60,000 couples in our database – we can sometimes make mistakes.

Please notify us and we will change it.

Please remember that there are three countries specified for each couple. First is the country they represent, and second and third are the home countries for each dancer.

How to find out what is new on our website?

We have just introduced RSS Feed from our site. RSS Feed allows you to be notified as soon as something changes on our site. Visit sharpreader.net to download free reader. Add feed from http://dancesportinfo.net If you use another RSS reader you may have to specify http://dancesportinfo.net/GetRSSFeed.aspx If you have problems installing RSS reader - visit our 'Whats New' section

What is rating?

Rating is a rather complicated set of mathematical formulas used to assign number to the couple which measures their ability. You can read more about logic of these calculations at here
